Viking Creek, Sunday July 16th, 2006

Here are some shots from Sunday July 16th's hike to Viking Creek, in Golden Ears Park. Five of us came out, and it was a fun afternoon hiking up the switchbacks and then climbing around the rocks. Those areas would be waterfalls any other time of year. I shot some video footage, which I'm currently editng, and it will be posted here soon.

Underwater Footage

Here's some swimming footage from last summer (2005). I hope to get some better stuff this year. About a month from now I should have at least one narrated, scored swimming/snorkelling film.

Old Kayak Movie

This was when I first got my camera, waterproof housing and editing program. I did a short paddling trip to Stave Lake to shoot some footage and see how everything worked. My apologies for the mistakes in the music; it was a rushed recording.

Lower and Upper Falls, Gold Creek, Maple Ridge

I apologize for the lousy pictures. My only digital camera is that which is built into my camcorder, and the card that came with it only holds three photos at maximum quality. So, I reduced that quality, then was later quite surprised that the quality was reduced.

One person from my church, three people from my old church, one newcomer, my ex-girlfriend and her daughter all joined me for a hike to the Upper Falls of Gold Creek. We walked the 45 minute trail to the Lower Falls, then headed into the hills for ten minutes to the Upper Falls. Great scenery and easy access to the cliffs, but there was that jump across rushing water to access the one view. I was the only one who found it difficult. I'm not sure whether it's lack of coordination or lack of confidence. As I had to be back early, I left them all at the Lower Falls on the return trip. They had started swimming, Radames jumping repeatedly off the ledge into the icy water, Jeff attempting to look with his goggles underwater but being discouraged by the cold, Chong and Kelly also getting in. I was sorry to leave them, but I had to be back for another function. Next time I'll have better photos, perhaps some underwater ones also. At least I shot some good video footage on this trip (despite my battery dying upon reaching our destination, just before Radames sat down in his rock chair beside the small waterfall; the greatest shot I've seen all year, and the battery dies!).
