Skiing at U.B.C. Research Forest

This afternoon (Sunday January 14, 2007) I took my cross-country skis up to the U.B.C. Research Forest. I brought a carrot along for the starving rabbit, which he ate immediately.

A woodpecker next to the trail. I should have used the flash, as his red head does not show up here.

One of the trail maps posted at intervals along the trail.

Our hero, defying the dreadful sub-zero temperature, bravely skis off into the wilderness.

Golden Ears Park, Saturday January 13, 2006

Radames, Sarah and I went for a short hike in the snow in Golden Ears Park. I was a little jealous of the cross-country skiers I saw on the road, but we enjoyed our walk in the snow and had some interesting conversations, so the skiing can wait for another day. Radames and I went afterwards to the nearby U.B.C. Research Forest for a short walk along the roads. There I again saw the rabbit with the white ring around his neck. He's usually scared of people, even if you have food for him, but this time he ran right up to me and stood up against my leg. He was starving and begging for food. Next time I'll have to remember to bring some carrots for him.
