Return to Upper and Lower Falls, Gold Creek, Maple Ridge, B.C.

A group of us headed up to the Upper and Lower Falls of Gold Creek on Saturday, August 19th, 2006. We enjoyed the strange shapes of the water-sculpted rocks of the Upper Falls, then after lunch we returned to the pool above the Lower Falls and a number of us went swimming. The water here is usually so cold that I can only stay in for a minute at a time, but this time it was wonderfully refreshing, and I found myself returning to the pool's edge with my mask and snorkel to dive down again and again.

Noelle, sitting right at the point where the water flows out, almost got washed away by the current (no joke!). Two of us pulled her out. She then borrowed my mask and set a new diving record.

Below are some photos from the trip.

One of the waterfalls at the Upper Falls. Note the shape of the rocks; the water has tunnelled out a cylindrical shape in them.

Noelle pointing out a rock that has been almost carved in half by the water. To her right, in the foreground, there is another rock that the water has ran a path right through. Jackie stands in the background.
